La Isla Mexican Restaurant: Reviews & Ratings
I was taken here by some family friends and it was my first time. We ordered Beef Steak Tacos, Jesus special, Chicken Fajita. I can’t tell you which of these was the best. They were all so amazingly super super delicious. Loved every bite I was taking if these. Sadly tummies have a limit or else I could have eaten this awesome food non-stop. To add to the already enjoyable food the owner and the server were so very friendly and kept a tab in us on a timely basis to ensure everything was perfect and so it was including the ambience. Would definitely go there many more times and highly recommend everyone to pay them a visit.
I normally choose to dine at the other Mexican restaurant in Hermitage, but went with family for lunch the other day to La Isla. It was pretty busy for lunch on a weekday, but we still had no wait. I was surprised by how cheap their lunch options were- I had the Burrito Grande and it was $7.99 for everything you see in the picture! I had enough for a second meal, though I didn’t think I would at first, but that’s also probably because I filled up on chips and salsa. The salsa is more blended compared to other places I’ve been, and I don’t particularly enjoy chunky salsa so that’s a win. I typically choose dishes at Mexican restaurants with shredded beef options, which La Isla does not have (at least on their lunch menu), although they have chopped beef, which is not as good in my opinion. For the burrito grande, I chose ground beef and it was pretty good. While the food was good, I don’t think it was as high quality as the other restaurant’s, and the flavor profile was simpler and not as stand-out “Mexican”. It was a good meal, but not one that stood out and encourages me to come back.
Definitely my favorite place to eat around the area! I typically get the Jesus Special (along with many other people). The service can sometimes be a bit slow if they’re busy. More recently I’ve gone when it wasn’t busy with a group of friends and they ignored us for multiple moments at a time. They’ve been wonderful many times at La Isla, and I know the workers get busy so I don’t mind. Just a heads up incase you need to be in and out, definitely order online. Online ordering is just as easy, accurate and tasty!
La Isla Mexican Restaurant is a best of in the area Restaurant - loved my meal!!! Very, very flavorful (Chicken Chimichanga) and was quick too. Not salty at all, and the chips and salsa were spot on. I got some extra hot salsa (green) that was really good too and hot!!! Manager was great also.
The salsa is sweet and spicy with a hint of cilantro. We got a jumbo burrito that we requested with both chicken and beef. It was pretty amazing . I got the Hawaiian fajita. It had a mixture of chicken, shrimp, scallops , onions, greenbell peppers, and pineapple. It was a real treat . Our servers were amazing. This place is so busy that it was difficult to find seating on a Friday evening, and yet the servers were keeping up. Would go back again.
Best Mexican food in the area, hands down - the competition isn't even close. La Isla is actually authentic, and stacks up excellently compared with restaurants I've visited close to the border. They use the right seasonings, the right cheeses, the right meats - unlike the "other place" down the street, which looks fancier (and charges more) but uses very Pennsylvania seasonings (which are great, but not in Mexican food), smothers everything in Philly cheese sauce and calls it their "secret Mexican cheese". La Isla is genuine through and through: authentic food in an authentic atmosphere (but still not too loud for a nice conversation). The service is great, and the portions are huge despite being amazingly cheap. Even the cheaper items on the menu are amazing; I can afford to come a lot more often than I would at most restaurants of this quality. Everything here is good - take your pick of what calls your name from the menu. My favorite is the Enchiladas Supremas, which is humble fare (and cheap) but absolutely delicious (and a huge portion) - feels like good home cooking. The carne asada meal (a thin, juicy steak you can cut up and put in tortillas) is incredible when I feel like splurging (it's still cheaper than basic fare at most places). The food is not spicy unless you add hot sauce to it (which is authentic) - that's what the bottles on the table are for. Use them to taste, or don't (the food is amazing as-is). The delicious homemade salsa with the free chips is very mild, and probably perfect for most PA taste buds. I like adding some of the (very hot) red habañero sauce to it, but that's just me. You can bring a whole family here even if they don't like spicy food.
Had a group of 20+ there for a special occasion. They wouldn't take a reservation so we couldn't warn them. We had one server doing our tables. She did her best to keep up but I couldn't get a refill on my drink and we couldn't all sit together. Food was delicious.
